Vishwakarma Jayanti



Vishwakarma is God of Architecture. He is also known as God of Creation. This Vishwakarma Jayanti festival is of celebrated in memory of Vishwakarma, divine architect and engineer. This day is also known as the 'Engineers' Day'.

In the year 2002, Vishwakarma Jayanti falls on 25th February. This festival is marked by all industrial houses, artists, craftsmen, and weavers. All worship God Vishwakarma. Work halts for this one day and a puja (prayer ceremony) is conducted at the workplaces.

Vishwakarma revealed the sciences of industry to man and is thus the patron god of all the workers and engineers and thus providing them courage and inspiration. Artisans clean their tools and repaint and repair their old machines. Shops, workshops are cleaned. Statues of Lord Vishwakarma holding a hammer and pliers are erected in workshops.

Vishwakarma puja is an inspiration for many. Many make resolution to create new products and increase productivity for the working class. According to mythology it is he who created the entire universe as well as the heaven and the earth. Bishwakarma is also credited for creating the missiles used in the mythological era, including the Vajra the sacred weapon of Lord Indra, from the bones of sage Dadhichi. He is regarded as the supreme worker, the very essence of excellence and quality in craftsmanship.

Cave number 10 of Ellora Caves is dedicated to Vishwakarma, saint of Indian craftsmen.
